Internet / World Wide Web / Bluetooth / Wi-Fi
Today's blog will look at the internet, the World Wide Web, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Lamar. Firstly, what is the Internet, who founded it, created it, and when and why? Well, the internet according to TechTarget is essentially a massive network that helps us communicate via phone computers, and any other means of technology. In 1938 the internet was created by Bob Kahn, and the internet was created as a way for government researchers to share information. Now the internet is used for multiple things, you can call people, stream movies, play video games, email, even use AI, and create so much art. The Internet has evolved since the late 30’s.
Secondly, what is the World Wide Web? The World Wide Web is
the pages you see when you’re on your electronic device. You can access the web
by using a multitude of browsers like Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and many
more. The World Wide Web was invented by Tim Berners-Lee in 1985, and he
created it to fulfill the necessity for automated information exchange among scientists
and researchers globally. Now the web as people call it is used for literally
anything! You can search for how to do anything, watch videos on YouTube, and even
make money on it, look for employment, do research, and do an essay paper. The power of the web is endless, and it is something
we should be grateful to have.
Thirdly, yes the World Wide Web and the Internet are different,
but they are needed to work with one another. You cannot use the web without
the use of the internet. The internet isn’t only used for the web, for video
games and playing online you need the internet. The internet is a vast global
network when and the World Wide Web is a system of pages that you can use on
your electronic devices via web browsers. While the Internet encompasses the
broader network, the WWW is a specific service that utilizes this network to
facilitate information sharing and access.
Fourthly, when was the first website created, who created
it, and is it still up? The first website ever created was
http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html, which was launched on August
6, 1991. The website was created by Tim Berners-Lee. It still works to this day,
which is surprising knowing that a lot of websites get shut down over the
years. The website describes the project WWW (World Wide Web).
Fifthly, what is the connection of Hedy Lamar to Wi-Fi and
Bluetooth, who was she, and is there a song about her? Hedy Lamarr was an Austrian
American actress and inventor. She is best known for her work in Hollywood during
the 30’s and 40’s she has also made contributions to technology. As to why she
is connected to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth well she co-invented a radio communication
technique called frequency hopping, according to history.com, World War II when
frequency hopping was invented. It was initially intended to prevent the jamming
of torpedo guidance signals. The point is that this technology laid the foundation
for modern wireless communication methods, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The
song itself is called “This is a Song for Miss Hedy Lamarr” by Jeff Beck and
Johnny Depp which was released in 2022. This is so cool since it pays homage to
Lamarr, celebrating her scientific achievements.
Sixthly, who and when developed Bluetooth, who named it, and
why does the logo look like it does? Bluetooth was developed in 1994 by Jaap
Haartsen and Sven Mattisson. This technology as said previously was created to
enable wireless communications. We use that in headphones air pods and even
games.
Lastly, who and when developed Wi-Fi, the original name of Wi-Fi,
and when and how it was named? The “father of Wi-fi” as they call him is Vic Hayes.
He is the one who chaired the IEEE committee that established the 820.11 in
1997. The original name of Wi-Fi was “IEEE 802.11b Direct Sequence”. As we know
this name was too technical, so they came up with a more marketable name and that’s
where “Wi-Fi” came to be. They chose it since it sounds catchy and similar to “hi-fi”.
